This year, it&#8217;s questioning why wealth still determines how long Americans live<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>Hims &amp; Hers is using this year\u2019s Super Bowl to air out a message it knows will draw criticism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The health and wellness telehealth platform, which offers GLP-1s, hormone replacement therapies and <a href=\"https:\/\/athletechnews.com\/biomarker-blood-testing-gold-rush-function-superpower-hims-hers\/\">lab testing for health markers,<\/a> is declaring that the era of health as a luxury is over.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Much like its <a href=\"https:\/\/athletechnews.com\/5-super-bowl-lix-ads-representing-the-wellness-shift\/\">bold Big Game debut last year<\/a>, Hims &amp; Hers opens with a strong message. This time, it&#8217;s even more blunt: rich people live longer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That is how the one-minute ad opens, narrated by rapper and actor Common.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The ad contrasts images of wealthy individuals receiving cosmetic procedures, advanced fitness testing and other longevity-focused treatments with everyday people left watching from afar. It also includes a pointed reference to Jeff Bezos\u2019 trip to space.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAll that money doesn\u2019t just buy more stuff, it buys more time,\u201d Common says in the ad. \u201cThe wealth gap is a health gap.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to Hims &amp; Hers, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thelancet.com\/journals\/lancet\/article\/PIIS0140-6736(24)01495-8\/fulltext\"  rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"(opens in a new tab)\">research<\/a> shows that people living in the top 1% live seven years longer, on average, than those living in the bottom 50%, based on median household income.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-medium_large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/athletechnews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/SB_PR-Still_1920x1080_No-Type_B-1120x630.webp\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-148571\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">credit: Hims &amp; Hers<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=aZ7Z5LTJWHM\"  rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"(opens in a new tab)\">This ad<\/a> was created to feel as disruptive as our business model,\u201d Dan Kenger, chief design officer of Hims &amp; Hers, said. \u201cWhen you\u2019re challenging a system that has been broken for generations, the design has to feel like a catalyst for change. We\u2019re not showing off products; we\u2019re helping people visualize a future where premium care is accessible for every single person on the planet.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Andrew Dudum, the co-founder and CEO of Hims &amp; Hers, said the campaign reflects mounting economic pressure on households and frustration with a healthcare system that often ties cost to outcomes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAs the rising cost of living forces Americans to make impossible choices, too many people are forced to treat health and longevity like a luxury,\u201d Dudum said. \u201cThat changes today.&nbsp; Hims &amp; Hers is built on the simple principle that the platform only succeeds when the patient does. It\u2019s time to start democratizing access to the kind of proactive, personalized care that all people deserve.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In a blog post published ahead of the game, Hims &amp; Hers said it expects the ad to \u201cruffle some feathers,\u201d arguing that discomfort is an inevitable response to challenging a healthcare system it views as unfair. Still, it said the backlash is a \u201csmall price to pay\u201d to expose what it described as a glaring reality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIf our message makes the industry uncomfortable, it\u2019s because their profits rely on the many but benefit the few,\u201d the post reads.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The ad\u2019s theme is timely. While the Super Bowl is typically a lighthearted Sunday, this year it arrives amid a broader sense of economic unease and mounting anxiety about healthcare costs in particular.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to a new <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kff.org\/public-opinion\/kff-health-tracking-poll-health-care-costs-expiring-aca-tax-credits-and-the-2026-midterms\/\"  rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"(opens in a new tab)\">KFF Health Tracking Poll<\/a> published this week, two-thirds of Americans say they worry about being able to afford health care for themselves and their families, making it the top financial concern, ahead of food, housing and utilities.
